Daily Thoughts
Well the NCAA finally came down with their final report and sanctions on SU today. There was no additional post season ban for next season, but the NCAA went hard at Jim Boeheim and the University in other areas. I personally think the NCAA wanted to send JB a serious message here. Now facing NCAA issues for the second time in his career, the NCAA made sure to take a hard stance on him. The most severe penalty for the b-ball program was the reduction of 12 scholarships over the next four years. That's a little extreme and I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be reduced eventually. Until that happens, what it means for SU is that they'll have to be more selective in who they offer and land a commitment from. They won't be able to get away taking flyers on players that are considered projects and are going to need instant contributors. I do believe top notch prospects will still be very interested in SU and that they'll be able to stack up good and competitive rosters. Plus it is facts that JB has hardly gone past eight players in his rotation throughout his coaching career. The 2003 championship team had a rotation of eight. The 2009-10 team, which some feel was the best team after the championship squad had a rotation of seven. The recent final four team was basically an eight man rotation as well. So I don't think it's going to cripple the program if they were to have a roster of only 10 scholarship players for a couple of years. Major issues will be that the margin for error will be small when it comes to dealing with injuries and having several recruits not perform at a high major level consistently as we saw this season.
