Daily Thoughts
)It's good to see that the SU staff was able to lock down an official visit date with Tyus Battle. I have always felt as this recruitment has dragged out that getting an official was important, and now that is set and especially with it being the last visit for Battle, it sets up SU in a great position to close this one out.
)PG Alterique Gilbert has SU on his final list of schools and plans on visiting. What's interesting to me here is that whether a Battle commitment would knock SU out of the equation, or does the staff plan to bring in two guards instead of one for next year?
)A lot of fans including myself were caught off guard when unknown big man James Banks from Georgia was offered. When taking a closer look at Banks, it's easy to see why the staff was intrigued because this is a big man who has only started playing the game a few years ago and is blessed with the height and wingspan to be very effective inside the paint. Even though he didn't dominate from a statistical standpoint during the live period last month, his size and upside had numerous scouts optimistic that he would be a load to handle once he puts it all together within the next few years.
)As listed above, all of the final rankings for 2015 is complete. The composite class ranking finishes up at 12 after being top 5 in the early goings. Some might have questions as to why the SU players rankings dropped or why they aren't as highly regarded like before. One thing that you have to remember about scouting services is that they're ranking based off future projection and upside on a player when it comes to how their career will end up in the pros. So the 90th ranked player may have a more productive college career, but the 25th ranked player ends up having the more accomplished pro career in the NBA. SU's 2015 class overall projects well to having a lot of success in college, but the scouts aren't high on their upside to be great pros which is the main reasoning for their drop in the rankings.
