My SU targets spring evaluations Pt1

Some of my notes on several SU targets and other players from recent events after getting a chance to watch their games.

2013
Tyler Ennis PG-The best pure PG in the 2013 class in my opinion. Great court vision making several sharp passes for finishes inside. Was able to either finish strong on drives to the hole or draw fouls. Outside shot is solid enough to keep the defense honest. Solid defender with good anticipation to get steals. Needs to get stronger because at times he can struggle against bigger defenders.

Rysheed Jordan PG/SG-Good size for a guard, can handle and penetrate into the lane very well. Not afraid of contact and had some amazing finishes inside. Has long arms, which helps him on the defensive end to force steals. Didn't see him knock down any perimeter jumpers in the two games that I watched and went 1-6 from the line in one game. Looks more comfortable playing off the ball than being a lead guard.

BeeJay Anya C-Tough game for him in the one that I watched. Struggled to finish inside against the athletic Texas A&M football commit Derrick Griffin, and he didn't make much of an impact on the defensive end either. Did show off a nice hook shot move in the post several times but those shots never went down.

Chinonso Obokoh C-Good size, long, athletic and plays with a lot of energy. Played the middle of the zone and did an outstanding job blocking and altering shots inside. I counted at least 7 blocks in one game. Didn't get many touches inside from his guards but when the opportunities came he didn't hesitate to try and score. Showed a good touch from the line and isn't shy about shooting mid-range shots. Needs to get stronger and learn not to be careless bringing down the ball, as he was strip several times for doing so. Obokoh has only been playing ball in the states since 2010, so obviously with good coaching and work ethic his best ball is ahead of him.

Goodluck Okonoboh PF-Very athletic and plays with a high motor. Big time shot blocker who despite not being very big isn't afraid to battle down low. Complete non-factor on the offensive end as his teammates never looked for him inside even when he had good position down low. Reminds me of a smaller version of current SU all hustle man Baye Moussa Keita.

Ishmail Wainright SF-Paul Harris clone in do it all fashion. Solid athlete with a strong upper body that handles, defends, and rebounds. Showed good vision in half court sets racking up several assist. Scored most of his points inside and does all the little things that never show up in the box scores. Never looked for his outside shot and the only one that he attempted was a 30ft prayer that went in at the buzzer to win the game.

Jaylen Brantley PG-Good shooter with deep range. Decent ball handler who likes to get into the lane and shoot mid-range floaters when the three point shot isn't there. Was reported that he had grown up to 6ft but still looks very small at probably 5'10 tops and is more of a scorer than distributor at this point.

2014
Dakari Johnson C-College ready right now despite being 2 years away from college. Strong big man who finishes well inside with a variety of post moves. Good feel for the game and knows how to find the open man out of double teams. Handles the rock well for somebody his size. Conditioning is still an issue as he looked to get tired after being in for long strong stretches.

The rest are notes on other players who are not cuse targets but could be of interest down line.

2013
Josh Hart SG-Good size for a SG at 6'5. Three level scorer who can score from deep, mid-range, and inside.

Will Ferguson PG-Very fast and brought a lot of energy for his team. Passed the ball well, knocked down a few jumpers and had a strong finish inside. A little bit on the small side but a definite high-major player.

EC Matthews SG-A lefty who specializes in getting into the lane shooting floaters and knocking down mid-range shots.

Duane Notice PG-Plays the back-up role to Tyler Ennis on the CIA Bounce squad but is a very solid player. More of scorer than a pure point but he showed the ability to drive strong and finish in the lane. Also knocked down a three and shot well from the line.

Demarcus Croaker SG-Athletic guard who can score from three levels. Plays on a loaded team with three 5 star players but still manages to stand out with his impressive skill set and offensive versatility.

Chris Walker PF-Long athletic player who makes most of his impact on the defensive end. Very good shot blocker and decent rebounder. Needs to develop a go to move, as his offense is basically dunks and put backs.

2014
Joel Berry PG-Good ball handler with a smooth stroke from the outside. Gets a little careless at times with the ball but for the most part does a good job running his team.

Trayvon Reed C-Checked out his team to watch a couple of other players who had claimed interest from SU but Reed stood out the most in a big way. Reed is long, athletic and makes a big impact on both sides of the ball. He dunks everything in sight, can score inside, and even has touch to shoot it from the perimeter. Defensively he blocks and alters shots in the lane and does a good job rebounding out of his area. Needs to stronger but that should come as he gets older.

Justin Jackson SF-Lanky small forward with deep range and a smooth overall game. Not great off the bounce but only needed a few dribbles to show off a solid mid-range game.
