Isaiah Whitehead Game Review

I recently checked out Isaiah Whitehead and his Juice All Stars team go up against NJ Elite that took place in April. The full game is available to watch in the link above.

It's really amazing how every time when I watch him play that he can fill up the box score without looking like he's doing too much. He knocked down a few long jumpers early on and kind of fell in love with the three ball and shot 1-8 overall from deep. He mixed in some good drives and every time when I watch him when he doesn't fall in love with the jumper he's pretty much unstoppable going inside which leads to scoring, finding the open player for an assist, or getting fouled. I like that he competes for boards and doesn't just stand and watch like most guards do. I had him charted for 2 steals but he had several strips and deflections that led to turnovers and he seems to have good instincts in that department defensively. His stat line overall that I charted was 19pts, 10rbs, 3ast, 2stls, 2 turnovers, 1-8 3pt, 6-8 ft. Besides the 3pt shot, it was a very solid game overall for him. While he'll mainly be a SG on the next level, he does a lot of ball handling and could find himself playing the combo role and running PG on occasions.

2014 Spotlight-Josh Perkins

Perkins is a 6'3 PG from Colorado, who recently announced that he will be attending national power Huntington Prep next season. His stock has risen from being a consensus top 50 player to most likely a 5 star top 20 player when various rankings get updated. Perkins is a good shooter and possess one of the best passing visions of any PG currently out there. Recruiting wise, Perkins has stated that UCLA, USC, and Gonzaga have been recruiting him the hardest, but noted that he has received calls and serious interest from SU, UConn, and Kentucky.

2014 Spotlight-Ja'Quan Newton

Newton is a 6'3 combo guard from Philly that attends Neumann-Goretti High, the former HS of Cuse alums Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson. Known for his abilities to get into the lane and finish with ease, Newton has worked on his long range shooting and has now become a respectable shooter from three-point land. Recruiting wise outside of SU, Newton sports offers and interest from Villanova, Temple, Georgetown, Miami, and recent offers from Minnesota and USC. Look for the SU staff to keep an eye on Newton and his AAU teammate 2015 recruit Malachi Richardson on Team Final this summer.
